Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about LiteFileHub, storage, sharing, privacy, and plans.
What is LiteFileHub?
LiteFileHub is a web-based file manager for storing, organizing, finding, and sharing your files online. You can browse folders, upload and rename files, preview photos and PDFs, search your files, and download selections - all from your web browser.
Its interface takes inspiration from Windows File Explorer, bringing familiar file-management tasks to cloud storage without requiring software installation or cloud storage configuration.
Who is LiteFileHub for?
LiteFileHub is designed for individuals, freelancers, and small teams who prefer a straightforward way to manage their files online, without needing technical knowledge.
It is a good fit for people who want to keep photos and documents organized, access them from different devices, and share them with others. Its focus is on everyday file management, rather than advanced integrations or support for protocols such as FTP, SFTP, and WebDAV.
Where are my files stored?
Your files are currently stored in the United States, using cloud storage services provided by Backblaze and Linode (Akamai). LiteFileHub manages this storage for you, so you don’t need separate accounts with these providers or any technical setup.
We plan to offer a European storage region in the future, giving you the option to store your files in the EU.
Are my files encrypted?
Yes. Your files are encrypted at rest by the cloud storage providers LiteFileHub uses. LiteFileHub does not add a separate layer of encryption, and the service does not provide end-to-end encryption.
LiteFileHub may process your files to extract text for searching and generate thumbnail previews. You can turn off these features, but doing so does not add encryption or change how your files are stored.
Do I need to install any software?
No. LiteFileHub runs in your web browser, so you can upload, organize, and access your files without installing an application.
Can I use LiteFileHub on my phone or tablet?
Yes. LiteFileHub works in your mobile browser, with an interface that adapts to smaller screens.
What types of files can I upload?
You can store photos, PDFs, and other file types. Photos and PDFs have additional features, such as previews, thumbnails, and searchable text where supported.
How does file searching work?
LiteFileHub can help you find files by their names and, where supported, text extracted from their contents and photo metadata. Content searching depends on the file format and whether you have enabled the relevant processing features.
Can other people work with me in the same repository?
Yes. A repository is a shared storage space for your files and folders. You can invite people to join it and use access roles to control what they can view, add, update, or delete. The number of active users allowed depends on your plan.
What happens when I delete a file or folder?
Deleted files and folders move to Trash, where an administrator can restore them or delete them permanently. Items are automatically deleted after the repository’s selected retention period.
Do files in Trash count toward my storage limit?
Yes. Files in Trash continue to count toward your storage limit until they are permanently deleted, either manually or when the retention period ends.
Can I download several files or folders at once?
Yes. LiteFileHub packages your selection into a ZIP file. Larger downloads may take a little time to prepare before the download begins.
Does LiteFileHub display advertisements?
No. LiteFileHub is an ad-free service.
Do you offer a free plan?
Yes. LiteFileHub offers a free plan with 5 GB of storage. No credit card is required.
Can I try LiteFileHub without registering?
Yes. You can explore LiteFileHub using a demo account without registering. Demo data is kept for 24 hours and then automatically deleted, so please keep your own copies of any files you upload.
What are the storage and download limits?
Each plan has a fixed storage limit and a monthly download allowance equal to three times that limit. For example, the free plan includes 5 GB of storage and 15 GB of downloads per month.
When your storage is full, you cannot upload more files until you free up space or increase your storage limit. Files in Trash also count toward your storage limit.
When you reach your download limit, you cannot download more files until your allowance resets or you increase your limit. The download allowance resets on the first day of each calendar month, regardless of your billing date. Your storage usage does not reset.
